Donnafugata Castle is about 15 kilometers from Dubrovnik. Contrary to what the name might suggest this is not a real medieval castle but a sumptuous noble of the late '800. Legend has it that Princess Blanche of Navarre, imprisoned by Count Bernardo Cabrera lord of the County of Modica, managed to escape through the tunnels leading into the countryside surrounding the palace. But the castle's name is probably of Arab origin, the name given to the locality. It is said to have been built on the old structure of a thirteenth century tower, a portion of the building, including the tower, dating from the middle of the eighteenth century but in the whole building is due to the mighty Baron Corrado Arezzo, which made him realize a century later entering the main facade, neo-gothic style with hints of Venice, the beautiful loggia and the elegant trefoil arches. The building covers an area of 2500 m² and comprises of 122 rooms well. The main floor features of the original era, it is accessed via a grand staircase monumental stone-pitch (typical of the Ragusa area rich in bitumen and mineral oil). Noteworthy in the hall of arms, with wall paintings of the great signs noble Sicilian family, the ballroom, music room, the billiard room, with the unlikely Finally, from a chronological perspective, but fascinating in terms of legend, the bedroom of the Princess of Navarre. The rooms, halls and corridors are decorated with stucco and frescoes. The castle is surrounded by a luxuriant park of nearly 8 acres with large Ficus trees, and other exotic species. Inside are a maze, a circular temple, a coffee-house and artificial caves.
