Punta secca: Holidays in Sicily - Inspector Montalbano

The village of Punta Secca has a 6 km long beach, with fine golden sand and shallow crystal-clear waters. It is well served by bars and restaurants. At sunset, it has a breathtaking and evocative charm.

The place is most peaceful during the week and in low/mid season (May, June and late September). The beach is in a restricted traffic zone, so you will need to park in the car park or nearby streets. In the high season, parking is easiest in the early morning or early afternoon. If the main beach is crowded, Punta Secca has other beautiful sandy beaches just a short walk from the main square. Punta Secca was once an important trading centre, with its majestic lighthouse dating back to 1853, but today it is just a small fishing harbour. Despite the development of tourism, Punta Secca retains the atmosphere of a typical Sicilian fishing village. The picturesque square, the fishermen working on their boats, and the public beaches, all reflect a typical Sicilian life-style.

Punta Secca became famous thanks to the Inspector Montalbano TV series. The Inspector’s house can be found in the little central square. It is a private building, but many tourists and fans of the TV series go there just to snap a photo in front of the fictional Italian detective’s house. All the Montalbano locations are nearby, in the Val di Noto: the house in Punta Secca, Ragusa Ibla, Marina di Ragusa, Scicli and Modica.
