Along the southern coast of Sicily, there is the beach of Punta Braccetto, which is located close to the city of Santa Croce Camerina, 30 km Ragusa. It presents a clear beach of fine sand alternating with stretches of rocks. The coast is equipped with beach clubs and camping, but there are also free areas. Thanks to the different services offered, among which there are restaurants and bars, the beach is very popular and crowded by people of all ages, especially in July and August. Legambiente and the Italian Touring Club counted it among the most beautiful beaches in Italy and included in the “Blue Guide 2014”.
The seaside village of Punta Braccetto
The village, which was already inhabited in the prehistoric era, was used by Byzantines and Normans as a dock to secure their ships. At the end of the so-called “Arm of the Colombara”, a tower (Torre Vigliena) was built in 1595 to defend the coast frequently attacked by pirate ships. In a near area characterized by deep waters and cliffs, the Allies landed in 1943.
