A holiday in the baroque heart of Ragusa Ibla

Experience the emotion of living inside a noble palace with frescoed vaults or in a typical apartment, with all the comforts offered by very new and restored ambiences, equipped with air conditioning system, wi-fi connection and television. The interiors are furnished in modern style respecting the original features of the ancient building. Our apartments preserve the precious floor in black pitch stone, a kind of limestone rock impregnated with bitumen. Typical of this area, the pitch stone was once used to pave noble palaces and churches. Some apartments have also classic style furniture with some restored pieces of ancient furniture, which melt perfectly in an elegant context with great attention to the smallest details.

Ragusa Ibla, the baroque historic centre of Ragusa, is a precious Medieval village rising up on a hill and surrounded by the Hyblaean Mountains. Explore its picturesque tiny streets and walk among the small houses, the charming noble buildings and the eighteenth-century churches, high testimonies of the Sicilian baroque art. Ragusa Ibla boasts also a high number of tourists and typical restaurants, which are expression of the ancient Sicilian culinary tradition.
Staying in an apartment in Ragusa Ibla will let you move easily to visit the baroque towns of Val di Noto, such as Scicli, Modica and Noto. You can reach the beautiful golden sandy beaches of Marina di Ragusa, Donnalucata, Punta Secca and Caucana. It is also possible to go on a one-day-trip to Mount Etna, to the Nature Reserve of Vendicari or to the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento.

6 good reasons to choose an apartment in Ragusa Ibla

  • Enjoy a wonderful view
There are plenty of breathtaking views over the baroque district of Ragusa Ibla and its churches.
We recommend the wonderful landscapes you can enjoy from the long staircase of Santa Maria delle Scale, from the hairpin turns of Corso Mazzini, from the former military district of Ragusa Ibla and last but not least… from the hairpin turns of the old road connecting Ragusa to Modica (the area of the hospital Maria Paternò Arezzo).
If you go at sunset the atmosphere is really magical!

  • Try a di…wine ice-cream
Immersed among the baroque buildings of Piazza Duomo, there is a small ice-cream shop with a beautiful view over the Cathedral of San Giorgio. You can recognize it from a colourful wooden door.
Get “drunk” with bergamot or muscat-flavored ice-cream, as well as with the unconventional tastes of sparkling wine, jasmine, olive oil and so on and so forth! A bizarre selection that will blow you away.

  • Learn the Sicilian dialect with “Siculamente”

  • Go trekking at the foot of the “city of the bridges”
In the valley beneath the three historic bridges of the city, there is a natural park called Cava di Santa Domenica, an ancient workplace of the inhabitants of Ragusa, where you will bump into eighteenth-century water mills, terracing, stone quarries and a necropolis of oriental origin.

  • Be enchanted by jugglers and tightrope walkers
If you happen to visit Ragusa in October, do not miss the event “Ibla Buskers”, a festival of street art masters from all over the world that takes place in the baroque streets of the city, including shows and music.
